Ruby Mac Apples

RubyMac is a medium-sized strain of McIntosh that is strikingly red in color. The fruit is juicy, crisp, and very firm with an even sweet-tart balance.

RubyMac was discovered in Comstock Park, Michigan, in 1999. It may be a cross of McIntosh and Rubinstar. A very promising ‘McIntosh’ strain, it is early-coloring with a vibrant red finish. Ruby Macs are very firm and are resistant to premature drop. Color coverage is nearly complete, with just a few spots of light yellow-green peel where the sun didn’t shine. Fruit is quite juicy, tinted green, and crisp though not hard. The flavors are balanced, though with some pleasing tartness.
